About
Meet Colleen Hitchcock, Board Certified Hypnotist
Colleen Hitchcock, BCH, MH, CCHt, CI
Colleen first became aware of hypnosis when she was 8. Her mother, Eva, was an avid reader and picked up a pamphlet on how to do hypnosis. So at a time when Colleen found it difficult to learn and memorize the rivers in Asia and Europe and Africa, Colleen had dreaded geography and was getting low grades.
Eva hypnotized Colleen to love geography and love the planet.
It worked—and she became a top student.
It wasn’t until she married Neil Hitchcock, a former University of Iowa basketball player, a Vietnam Veteran, and a fellow stockbroker, who smoked cigarettes, that hypnosis came up again. A month after they married, she got a call from Neil’s doctor telling her that Neil had a spot on his lungs in the X-ray. He said not to worry—it could be the machine, so he wanted to have him come back and have another X-ray.
She asked the doctor to please encourage Neil to quit smoking.
Neil returned from the doctor and luckily, it was the machine; but he had a card with him for a hypnotist. Neil was smoking 3 packs of cigarettes a day and he went to the hypnotist and had his session, and the next day they were at their family Lake Superior cabin. It rained 5 days in a row and Colleen, Neil, Eva, and her husband “Doc” sat and played bridge for the whole time Doc, a physician, smoked Chesterfield straights all day. During those 5 days, Neil still never smoked. Didn’t ask to “bum” one from Doc—and Colleen was shocked.
Neil had quit for good.
Hypnosis now had Colleen’s attention and she started doing impromptu sessions for friends when they were at turning points in their lives, when they were separating from their relationships, had job issues, or needed a boost in their lives.
Colleen has her Bachelor of Science in Education from Minnesota State University, she was a Regional Manager for a Boston Management Consulting company for 9 years doing corporate culture change for Fortune 100 companies. American Council of Hypnotist Examiners
For examination and certification by A.C.H.E., a Hypnotherapist must be trained in a school approved by the A.C.H.E. The A.C.H.E. only approves schools that have programs of at least 200 hours of classroom training in hypnotherapy.
Certification as a Clinical Hypnotherapist requires not less than 300 hours of classroom training and is the highest level of certification awarded.
Graduates of approved schools receive diplomas in hypnotherapy and, if they provide hypnotherapy services to the general public, are considered to be professional hypnotherapists.
International Medical & Dental Hypnotherapy Association
The International Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Association is an organization dedicated to providing the community with excellently trained Certified Hypnotherapists. IMDHA Practitioners work harmoniously with allied healthcare professionals to aid individuals in dealing with specific challenges and procedures.
The IMDHA objective is to help create a sense of peace and harmony within the individual so that the current challenge can be met and dealt with in a positive manner, thus making the journey toward wellness and peace of mind less traumatic.
IMDHA goal is to reduce the stress the individual is experiencing as a hospital patient and/or surgical patient, etc. Less stress allows the body to focus attention on its natural course of healing. The method to be used is hypnosis.
In addition to medical challenges all IMDHA members assist persons in dealing effectively with non-medical problems. Finding solutions to self-sabotaging habits leads to peace of mind and control of unwanted, negative behavior. Self Empowerment is the goal.
The International Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Association is dedicated to healing: Body, Mind and Spirir.
